2016 Season Wrap-Up

12.31.2016

Well, this season came and went very quickly.  As you can see below I am a bit behind on the updates.  I started a new business venture in September (www.kartcarolina.com) which took up a lot of time, but I did finish out the 2016 season.

The second half was a successful campaign.  I was never off the podium and consistently battling for wins.  When everything was said and done, I ended up 2nd for the track championship!

Huge shout-out to Comet Kart Sales as the Eagle handled flawlessly all year.  It was even knocking on the door of a Top 10 at the WKA National in Daytona in Dec. 2016 before a broken throttle cable ended the run with 3 laps left.  I have uploaded new videos from the last couple of races as well, so be sure to check out my Youtube channel.  The Facebook page is up to date with Daytona as well, so be sure to take a peek there.

Thanks all and happy new year!  Here's to a successfull 2017!!

Seize the day...

8.20.2016

Well, second half of the season almost got off to a bad start.  Had some issues lingering from another series but got that squared away.  Then during the 3rd practice session, the engine seized.  Apparently the rear drain plug worked its way loose, leaked oil, and boom, engine was done.  Luckily I had access to another, so a quick change before qualifying got me back on track.

Qualified 2nd, finished the heat 3rd, and in the final was in 2nd most of the race.  Got passed at the end of the front stretch after taking the white flag.  We then continued to battle for the next 7 turns swapping position.  Settled in for a few turns, then got a run coming into the stretch.  Drafted and pulled out, but he got me by about half a kart (less than a tenth).  So settled for 3rd.  Overall, good race!

One of my favorite layouts made for a good day at the track!

Kart was working great.  Tinkered with gearing a bit after qualifying 2nd.  Didn't get the best start but was able to fight back from 4th to finish 2nd in the heat as well.  Final was a great battle between me and the leader.  We stayed single file for the first half of the race which allowed us to pull a lead.  With ~5 to go I took the lead, but lost it with 3 to go.  On the final lap I was on him, but couldn't get around and came in second by .05 seconds as I tried to draft by at the finish line.

This race was the 4th race and marks the half-way point of the track championship.

Second race, second place...

4.164.17.2016

Double-header weekend.

Saturday was the track championship, round 2.   Qualified 3rd, won the heat after a few contenders got DNFs, 2nd for the main.

Sunday was the first races of the Maxxis National Sprint Series.  Ran an odd layout (basically the outside of the road course making it an oval).  Had a few dirt guys even show for this one.  Still, even running a full CIK setup, finished 4th.

Third race, third place...

5.7.2016

Hopefully not a trend as whatever race number it is has been my finishing position in the main!

Kart was good.  Lots of competition showed up today.  Qualified 4th, but top 4 were separated by less than 3 tenths total...

Heat was pretty uneventful.  Two karts in front of me had penalties for various items, so finished 4th, but awareded 2nd.

Final was lots of back and forth, but couldn't quite get close enough to challenge for the lead.  3rd for the day.

2016 season opener

3.5.2016

Well the new setup seemed to work in the season opener at Carolina Motorsports Park.  If you haven't been able to figure it out yet by the trophy, we  opened with a win!

The kart was good all day as I was fastest in every session, qualifying on the pole.  I did finish 2nd in the heat race by ~.5 seconds, but was able to get the kart hooked up for the final and took the win by about 2 seconds.  Overall a pretty good day and I'm looking forward to see what this thing can do in the rest of 2016.

DCX Motorsport switches chassis for 2016...

2016

DCX Motorsports made it official with a switch from the Birel chassis to the Comet Eagle chassis.

The decision was made both from a performance perspective as the Eagle is a purpose built 4-cycle chassis, as well as a support perspective as Birel does not have much of a 4-cycle program in the States.

We are looking forward to running the new setup for 2016!
